The following books are very often referred to:
Women’s health books:
Naturally Healthy Woman by Shonda Parker
Naturally Healthy Pregnancy by Shonda Parker
Both of Shonda’s books as well as Mommy Diagnostics are a great placde to start for a mom who wants to know how to do more for herself and family. Shonda gives plenty of practical advice and isn’t afraid to tell you there are times to visit your family health professional.
Children’s Health
Mommy Diagnostics by Shonda Parker
Health & diagnosis:
Your Healthy Child
Merck Manual – Home edition
Eldercare:
Elder Rage by Jacqueline Marcell — Probably the most frank journal of a woman suddenly being thrust into caring for her failing parents and how she dealt with her father’s Alzheimer’s. Not for the sensitive ears of many, Jacqueline retells her daily horrors of dealing with an angry, demented parent. Be aware that there is rough talk and rougher scenes as the father goes into insane rages. But reading Elder Rage will put you right in the front row of how to care for your parents.
Eldercare for Dummies by Rachelle Zukerman — Like other “Dummies” books this one is very well written and gives plenty of useful tips and advice for those of us now finding ourselves in the position of caring for our parents.
Herbs:
10 Essential Herbs by Lalitha Thomas – a great beginning guide to herbs. I wore mine out!
Natural cold and immune system remedies:
Never Get Sick Again by Cheryl Hines – For years I have been learning about herbs and natural remedies, applying this knowledge to caring for my large family. We have saved thousands of $$ in doctor visits and kept healthy without drugs. I have put together a very helpful ebook that documents my experience and gives the recipes for the very same recipes we have used for years.
